Our Phlebotomy Technician I program is meticulously designed to meet California regulatory standards (California Code of Regulations Section 1035.1, 1242, and Section 100275, 120580 Health and Safety Code). This program prepares aspiring healthcare professionals for certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT-1) and equips them with the knowledge and skills to excel in entry-level phlebotomy positions.
Program Overview:
- Basic Phlebotomy Training (20 hours): Foundations of infection control, universal precautions, essential anatomy and physiology, especially of the circulatory system, and core medical terminology.
- Advanced Phlebotomy Training (20 hours): Advanced topics include infectious disease control, anticoagulation theory, understanding and preventing pre-analytical errors, anatomical site selection, and patient preparation.
- General Phlebotomy Education (20 hours): An introduction to phlebotomy, including OSHA regulations, safety protocols, emergency first-aid, routine venipuncture techniques, and dermal puncture methods.
- Hands-on Laboratory Practice (16 hours): In a classroom lab setting, students develop practical skills in venipuncture techniques and other core phlebotomy procedures.
- Clinical Externship (80-160 hours): In a clinical environment, students complete the following under professional supervision:
- A minimum of 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures to fulfill clinical laboratory testing requirements, as specified by the Business and Professions Code.
- Observation of 2 arterial punctures.
